The first week of the oral course is behind and here are some of my thoughts about it so far.
I consider myself to be very good at English when it comes to writing, but as is expected I'm not as good at actually speaking it. I have been in situations where I have had to talk English a lot, like the Italy exchange thingie last year and other times I've been abroad. Now I haven't used it in a long time and my speaking isn't nearly as fluent as it should be. While speaking my vocabulary is strangely small and I have noticed that I've made mistakes even with simple grammar, and my pronunciation is most of the time quite awkward, especially when I'm not paying attention to it. But I guess that's why this course exists and it is good that I'm attending it to get some exercise.
I haven't really enjoyed the exercises where we've needed to discuss stuff in groups, it feels kind of artificial to me and I can't talk naturally. It also is silly to talk to my friends about what I did during my summer holidays when they already well know what I did.
The course has been going on for almost two weeks now, and I'm already seeing some progress in my talking. Mostly it's that I'm feeling less reluctant to start speaking out loud. In fact, after today's class we had course 9 lessons where whenever I was going to say something, I was about to say it in English even if I shouldn't have, which felt kinda odd.
VastaaPoistaThe Wednesday's listening comprehension was probably the first one ever where I was not about to fall asleep the whole time, but that was probably just because I was able to sleep longer than usually that morning *cough* Anyway, apart from the couple of mistakes I did due to losing focus, it was pretty easy and I'm confident about the yo test's listening comprehension.
