Course 8

The first week is behind and the second one is ahead. The lessons in the previous week were new for me because there you have to speak English almost all the time. I have not spoken English so much that I could compose my thoughts to talk fast enough and clear enough. Writing is not a big trouble for me because you can think and fix your spelling during the writing progress. Nevertheless, when you speak, talk needs to come straight out. I think that this course will definitely be a big help for me. During the course, I hope that my pronouncing will improve a lot and after the course, I would like to be more confident to speak English in any situation.

  1. I haven't noticed yet any big changes in my speaking and I feel that my knowing of words has been deteriorated during the summer holiday. It takes time to memorize the words that I've forgotten and get those back to everyday use. Luckily there is still some time to practise vocabulary before the matriculation examination.

I feel that speaking English is quite relaxed and fun in my group and previous week's "Sahara" negotiation exercise was a lot of fun! It's a great feeling when you are able to negotiate with your group and you all end up agreeing something. Our substitute teacher Antti was an easygoing guy. In my opinion, in this kind of course the teacher has to be relaxed because it encourages to speak if the situation is natural and relaxed. I'm looking forward to next lessons and I hope that I'll start to recall the vocabulary.

  2. I am posting these posts maybe a little too late but here we go. I found myself a bit of frustrated with my English skills during the week. There is still about two weeks left before the D-Day but there is not much left that you can do. I feel that speaking English starts to be slightly more natural than before and I'm getting used to it. I have not practised the vocabulary yet but it is improving all the time. Furthermore, I have noticed that watching TV-series without subtitles is a great practice for the listening comprehension test and therefore I am watching series called Breaking Bad. Later on there will be debating in our class and I am hoping that there will be some topics that interests me. It is always nicer to talk about things that you know something about.

  3. Debating is over and it felt awkward to speak in such a big group. It was enthusiastic to hear what other people thought about the topics but it was really hard for me to say my own opinions and I don't know why. I wasn't nervous at all but I couldn't put my thoughts into words. In a smaller group, before the actual debating, it all went well.

I am happy that I managed to get E from the practice exam but the essay went poorly. I don't know what is going on with my English. I remember the time when I was able to write English without cogitating how I should put it. I truly hope that my English is in a great shape before the fight. I'm starting to panic with my problem.

  4. The last lessons are finally over and now we're heading to the oral exam. I start to feel a little bit more confident with my English at the moment but there's still some improvement to do. The vocabulary has started to spring to mind and it is all the time easier to write or say something in English. Speaking isn't as fluent as it should be but I'll think that I'll be able to manage the oral exam smoothly enough. I'm satisfied that the listening comprehension test went pretty well and I still have all the chances for a great result in the matriculation examination. There is loads of things that needs to be rehearsed before the written part, so a man's got to do what a man's got to do.

  5. The oral exam went pretty decent and I didn't notice that I made big mistakes in it. I thought that our training time with Jukka would start at 10:20 but it was the time when the exam started and that's why I was late from the training. Luckily, I had about 10 minutes to practice and therefore I wasn't so empty handed in the test. It wasn't so nerve-racking experience than I thought and I wasn't nervous at all. The second part of the test was the hardest bite for me and I faced many dead ends in it. All in all, I feel that English has become easier for me and I'm able to speak it more fluently than before. This course was really satisfying for me because our table group was very comfortable and I clearly noticed that I was making progress with my speaking and writing. Now there is only the main exam left so let's head for it.
