First impression of the course

I have pretty much nothing to say about the first week of the course. The things we've gone through so far have been pretty basic, sometimes it's been hard to take the exercises seriously. But at least I've had fun!

Talking in English is part of my everyday life, so I think this course won't give me quite as much as it might give to someone who rarely talks in English. But I'm here to learn more precise and "formal" English for the future :)

  1. There is one thing this course has made me think: Am I that good in English after all? I know the purpose of the course isn't to make anyone feel worse about their skills, of course not, but I think I've been too sure when it comes to speaking or, especially, understanding English.

What really pisses me off are the listening comprehensions. They are simply ridiculous! I really don't know if it's because I can't concentrate well enough, but every time we are doing them I find myself sitting there and thinking that I didn't understand, pardon my French, a shit. But when it comes to watching movies/series without subtitles or talking with people in English, I'm doing just fine.

I know that some stupid listening comprehensions shouldn't bother me if understanding English isn't a problem for me in my everyday life. I just find it extremely frustrating when I really try my best but it leads nowhere.

Anyway, the course has been fine.

  2. Ok, listening comprehension test is finally gone and I don't have to rage about it any longer. Hopefully.

Last week's debates were not a huge success, I think. Most of us couldn't find much arguments to pose so we couldn't get so "deep" with the topics. But it wasn't bad either.

The oral exam is near but I'm not too stressed about it. I think the hardest part will be summarizing the Finnish text in English. Although it all depends pretty much on the topic of the text... But I'm quite sure it'll be fine (:

  3. I've been quite tired on the classes and not so motivated to do anything. Especially the listening comprehension test made me feel a bit down but at least next time I'll know how to do better on it...hope so.

It's kinda hard to try to find something to say about the classes or the course in general, 'cause it feels the same every week. Maybe that's because I haven't been doing pretty much anything on the classes... Oopsy daisy.

Anyways, I talk in English every single day so at least I'm "practising" at home (:

  4. I guess I haven't profited from the course as much as I could have. Of course I have learnt more precise things about pronunciation, for example, but maybe I could've learnt something more..

On the last week we had this game that had mafiosos, a police, a nurse and so on.. I didn't totally catch the point of the game but it was quite fun. Especially when everyone were confused and just opening their eyes when they were not supposed to :D Maybe we should've played it one more time to see how it really works..

  5. So, the oral exam is done, hooray! I wasn't really thinking or worrying about it, I just did my best. I think my topics were really easy, unlike Siiri's. That wasn't so fair but I think she did very well and at least we were talking quite much. Almost too much :D

Even though this course was quite easy and we didn't have any homework (except this blog...), I'm glad it's over. And I'm even more glad that I got this blog thingy done. I know I was supposed to write weekly but studying for the matriculation examination jut took all my time. But everything's done now and I can finally leave this course behind. So long !
